Hardscaping Is Features the Story Behind Our Award-Winning Work
Our team won’t soon forget the request that kicked off this project: create “the baddest home Kansas has ever seen.”
Hardscaping Is recently featured the story behind one of the most ambitious residential projects our team has ever completed. The three-and-a-half-acre property ultimately earned Green Lawn top honors in the Segmental Concrete Pavement – Residential – Size More than 3,000 sq. ft. category at the 2025 Hardscape North America Awards.
The finished project is a sight to behold, but what we’re most proud of is the work it took to get there.
Months of Strategic Planning With a Dose of Flexibility
When a client is seeking a unique outdoor space, listening, planning, and collaboration are essential. Before construction began, our team spent months reviewing plans, preparing estimates, talking with vendors and architects, and understanding how our work would interact with every other trade involved in the property.
To say the least, this job went far beyond most traditional hardscaping projects. It incorporated extensive paver installations, landscaping, drainage, irrigation, erosion control, fencing, lighting, fire features, and innovative customized elements across the property.
However, preparation wasn’t everything. The homeowner had a strong vision for the finished project, yet portions of the design continued to evolve as the project progressed. Our team remained flexible without losing sight of the core details that would make the design feel intentional.
We Found Creative Solutions To Make This Project Stand Out
A project of this scale required just the right choices to ensure the finished work aligned with the homeowner’s vision.
Thousands of square feet of large-format Unilock Arcana pavers had to maintain consistent coloring, which meant carefully sourcing material from the same production run. The Arcana product was also new enough that standard coping options for the stairs, steps, and pool edges hadn’t been formalized.
We jumped in to develop solutions specifically for the project, incorporating custom COR-TEN steel details, hand-painting the coping to create a consistent appearance around the pool, and even experimenting with multiple colors of polymeric sand until we achieved the right blend for the joints between the pavers.
Project challenges don’t often come with instructions, and solutions aren’t just sitting in a catalog. Creativity, technical skill, and a willingness to keep working at the program is what makes a Green Lawn project special. View our portfolio of completed projects throughout Johnson County.
The Award Is an Honor, but the Homeowner’s Experience Is What Matters Most
Receiving national recognition for our work was incredibly rewarding. We’re proud of the craftsmanship that went into this project, and we’re even prouder of the Green Lawn team members who spent a year bringing it to life.
We successfully completed this project by sticking to the high standards we have for any project. We took time to understand what our customer wanted, executed the work to a high standard, and made sure the finished project met the homeowner’s expectations.
Whether we’re building a three-and-a-half-acre outdoor oasis or helping a homeowner improve one important part of their property, we view every job as an opportunity to demonstrate our technical skill, people-first approach, and attention to detail.
National recognition is exciting confirmation that those principles can produce exceptional work.
