KSHB 41 Highlights How Taking Care of Lawns Is a Way To Care For Neighbors
At Green Lawn, mowing is an ordinary part of the workday. We have the talent, equipment, and experience to help any lawn look healthy, green, and cared for.
But for a neighbor who physically can’t keep up with that work anymore, maintaining a freshly mowed lawn is a major stressor.
KSHB 41 recently featured Green Lawn’s involvement with Shawnee’s Mow Squad, part of the city’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors program. The program connects qualifying residents who need lawn care assistance with volunteers, organizations, and local businesses willing to provide services at no cost.
A Green Lawn Team Member’s Idea Turned Into an Opportunity To Serve
We’re proud to say that our team members aren’t just checking another property off the list as they move through Johnson County mowing lawns. After learning about the Mow Squad, Green Lawn employee Tony approached President Craig Hawkins and asked a simple question: Is this something we could do?
The answer was yes. When our employees see an opportunity to use what we do best to help make a project shine or better serve our community, the answer is always yes.
The result of Tony’s idea has become an ongoing relationship with a local homeowner who needed the kind of help our team could provide.
Meet Shawnee Homeowner Richard Milne
Richard Milne had reached a point where maintaining his property on his own had become a serious challenge.
Before Green Lawn started mowing his yard through Shawnee’s Mow Squad, Richard told KSHB 41 that mowing his grass with a weed eater could take him about three days.
Now, our crew visits his property each week and handles the mowing at no charge.
Richard’s thank-you note to our team sits framed at the front of our office, reminding us of the impact we have by sticking to our core values, going the extra mile, and putting our community first.
Johnson County Has Given Us 30+ Years of Business. We’re Happy To Return the Favor.
Green Lawn has been serving Johnson County since 1992. Over the past three decades, local homeowners have invited us onto their properties, trusted our recommendations, referred us to their neighbors, and helped us grow from a small lawn care company into the full-service business we are today.
But we’ve never forgotten where that growth came from. As President Craig Hawkins told KSHB 41, “The community does so much to provide for us, to help us and our business grow. It’s just something that we can do that helps us return the favor, right?”
We’re grateful for programs like Neighbors Helping Neighbors, for the people throughout Shawnee who volunteer their time, and for Green Lawn employees like Tony who spot an opportunity to help and speak up.
Serving Johnson County with high-quality lawn and landscaping services always gives us a sense of pride. Yet we’re even prouder when we have a chance to make a difference for those in need.
